Mark Mouland is the 2008 Numark British Par 3 Champion.
With a four under second round of 50, Mark edged out Lee Slattery who finished three under par. Four professionals then finished on 2 under par, with the weather shining very kindly on Nailcote for the second day's golf.
The event attracted a strong professional field with the likes of Graham Storme and Tony Jacklin (picured left) playing alongside 12 other European Tour Winners competing for this prestigious championship which was televised by SETANTA SPORTS.
The Numark British Par 3 Championship is played on probably the most challenging par 3 course in the UK. As Vice Captain of the Ryder Cup team in 2006 Peter Baker once said "it's set up tougher than the US Open!" after winnning the tournament himself in 1998.
2008 presented the 75th Anniversary of the British Par 3 Championship at Nailcote Hall, Hotel, Golf and Country Club, Warwickshire. Twice major winning and Ryder Cup legend Tony Jacklin CBE, was the official host to what was to be a truly unique and prestigious event.
"Being invited to host the British Par 3 Championship is a fantastic honour. I enjoyed all 4 days of golf at this most unique event in the company of European Tour golfers, PGA Professionals and golfing enthusiasts"
The British Professional Short Course Championship has been steeped in the history of the game since it was first hosted at Torquay's Palace Hotel in 1933. The inaugural championship was graced by some of the all time great players, including many past Open Champions, Alex Herd, Alf Padgham, Ted Ray, JH Taylor and Harry Vardon. Peter Alliss' father, Percy played in the event, as did Henry Cotton in later years and many other Ryder Cup players including Abe Mitchell, the personal tutor of Samuel Ryder, who is figured on top of the Ryder Cup Trophy.
Mark narrowly missed out on a double in the Pro-Am competition in which he partnered 12 year old Charley Hull (pictured right), with Elliott Cook & Tom Whitehouse edging them and Walter Goonewardane & Simon Lilly out on a countback with an excellent betterball medal score of 14 under par.
Presented with the trophy by Tony Jacklin, with some emotion, Mark recalled how his Father, 6 times Welsh Champion, Sid Mouland (pictured left) had won the tournament himself 46 years ago and went on to win it for a second time. Mark said "This means so much to me to win a tournament that my Dad won so many years ago", and went on to thank his Dad for giving him such a good short game.
